Bio:
Born in Belleville, IL, Elisabeth has resided in central Florida for the past 25 years. She has developed her skills through workshops and home study creating a style of her own utilizing both classical techniques and alla prima methods of oil painting. Elisabeth paints in a detailed realistic style often “hiding” creatures or animals in her paintings, which are not obvious to the viewer. Her subjects range from landscapes, wildlife, figurative and portraits. She has occasionally done murals and signs, a couple of which can be viewed at the corner of Maguire and Bennett Road in Orlando for the “Audubon Park” neighborhood.

Elisabeth started in acrylics and then switched to her current medium of oils. In the last few years, she joined a local group of plein air painters (CFPAA) and has enjoyed traveling throughout remote and less traveled areas of central Florida painting the scenery.

Artists statement: I paint realism with strong color, composition and drawing from life and photos taken by myself and/or friends. My favorite subjects are wildlife and landscape which I often incorporate both into the same painting. I started painting Plein air about 6 years ago and it has gradually taken over to the point that I only work from photos if I absolutely have to. I absolutely love discovering new and beautiful remote areas of Florida. Each painting I do has a story behind it. I can look at the painting and it takes me back to that day and I can once again feel the breeze, hear the birds, gators and all sorts of wildlife, smell the clean air etc. My son’s love of wild cats inspired me to do a series of wildlife paintings depicting cougars and tigers which are based on photos we took at an artists “sketch-out” offered locally. We were able to interact directly with the young cougars who were about a year old (see “Curious Cougars”) I also love the beautiful colors and majesty of tropical birds of which I have photographed extensively. My goal is to capture scenes that one day will be gone in the hopes that others will see and appreciate the land and wildlife that we have today.

In addition to participating in Plein Air events and exhibits, I also teach workshops to beginner and intermediate artists or anyone wishing to learn to paint or improve their skills. I teach One-day (9am to 4pm) Workshops every month, usually the 3rd Saturday of each month. 3-4 day intensive workshops are 1 to 2 times a year. For more information, go to "Calendar"
